The Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) is a non-profit venture backed by a
unique collaboration of Indiana health care institutions. IHIE's vision is to use
information technology and shared clinical information to improve the quality,
safety, and efficiency of health care in the state of Indiana, create unparalleled
research capabilities for health researchers, and exhibit a successful model of
health information exchange for the rest of the country. IHIE is creating a common,
secure, electronic infrastructure that expands communication and
information-sharing among participating providers, hospitals, public health
organizations, and other health care entities. It has also initiated a program to
assess, and assist physicians in improving, their quality of care. For more
